—Two members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have pulled out of the impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu.
The lawmakers are the Minority Leader of the Assembly, Sylvanus Nwankwo, who represents Omuma State Constituency, and Peter Abbey from Degema State Constituency.
They also called on their colleagues in the Assembly to explore peaceful means of resolving the ongoing impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara and his deputy.
Speaking to journalists, the two legislators acknowledged that Governor Fubara may have breached certain constitutional provisions, but appealed to fellow lawmakers to regard the issues as human errors and allow outstanding concerns to be settled amicably.

iDeemlawful recalls that the Rivers State House of Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy last Thursday.
The process began after the Assembly’s Majority Leader, Major Jack, read out allegations of gross misconduct against Fubara, which were reportedly endorsed by 26 lawmakers.
Following the presentation of the allegations, the Assembly issued a seven-day notice to the governor and his deputy to respond to the claims.
This marks the third time Governor Fubara and Professor Odu have faced impeachment moves since assuming office in 2023.
Previous impeachment attempts in 2023 and 2025, linked to political disputes between Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, were halted after President Bola Tinubu intervened, before a state of emergency was declared in Rivers State.
