President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has restated his administration’s commitment to ensuring religious freedom in Nigeria.
The President gave the assurance in his 2025 Christmas goodwill message to Nigerians, with particular emphasis on the Christian community.
He said the Federal Government would build on existing engagements with religious leaders to deepen collaboration, prevent conflicts, and foster peaceful coexistence across the country.
“Throughout the year, I have had the privilege of engaging with prominent leaders from the two major faiths in the country, particularly amid concerns about religious intolerance and insecurity,” Tinubu said.

“We will build on these conversations to strengthen collaboration between government and religious institutions, prevent conflict and promote peaceful coexistence.”
Extending Christmas greetings to Christians in Nigeria and across the world, the President described the season as a period for reflection on the birth of Jesus Christ and His message of peace, hope, and salvation.
“As we mark this year’s Christmas, may the love of Christ and his message of grace, hope, peace, and goodwill to humanity abide with us all,” he said, adding that Christmas goes beyond festivity to remind humanity of Christ’s role as the Prince of Peace.
Tinubu expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve as President and offered prayers for peace nationwide, “especially among individuals of differing religious beliefs.”
He stressed that his administration remains steadfast in protecting Nigerians’ right to practise their faith without fear or intimidation.
“As your President, I remain committed to doing everything within my power to enshrine religious freedom in Nigeria and to protect all people of different faiths from violence,” he said.
The President also acknowledged the contributions of Christians to national development, noting that Christian values continue to inspire compassion for the vulnerable and the promotion of peace and tolerance.
“The love of Christ and the message of the Gospel have inspired many Christians to care for the vulnerable and less privileged in our society,” he said.
“We honour those who, following the example of Jesus, work tirelessly to promote peace, harmony, and tolerance in their communities,” he added.
Reaffirming his administration’s security agenda, Tinubu said the government has consistently assured Nigerians of its determination to protect national unity and stability since assuming office in 2023.
“All Nigerians have the right to live, worship, and pursue their aspirations in safety and dignity. No one, regardless of ethnicity or belief, should be made to suffer for professing and practising his faith,” the President declared.
He highlighted shared values across religious divides, noting that love for God and humanity must continue to unite Nigerians as one people.
As citizens travel during the festive season, Tinubu urged Nigerians to exercise patience and discipline on the roads, while wishing travellers safe journeys and returns.
Expressing optimism about Nigeria’s future, the President said, “With confidence in divine providence and our collective strength, we will continue the work of building a greater Nigeria, one that future generations will be proud of.”
