The Minister for Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd), has shared how he believes divine intervention influenced his rise to national leadership.

He said God elevated him at a moment when situations seemed overwhelmingly unfavourable.

Musa gave the testimony during a recent service at the Conquerors Global Assembly in Abuja, as observed by Church Times and posted on its website on Sunday, with a video later circulating on social media.

The minister attended the service with his wife and expressed appreciation to the church’s founder, Bishop David Abioye, and his wife.

He also prayed for the continued expansion of the ministry.

While addressing the congregation, Musa encouraged worshippers not to despair, saying, “because we serve a living God. He will never give up on us.”

Speaking on developments in his life, he said, “We give God the glory for what has happened this year. Even when the enemy thought they were putting us down, they did not know God was going to lift us up. In their small mind they conspired and thought they had won. But as long as you have God as your pillar you will win.”

The defence minister, who referred to Abioye as a trusted associate, said difficulties were essential for personal development, adding that trials help build resilience.

He said, “If you are never challenged you can never improve in life. As Nigerians, we know we are strong but we are stronger together with God Almighty. Nigerians are winners. We must continue to pray for our leaders and our country.”

Musa also warned against negative portrayals of the nation, noting that constant criticism weakens collective progress.

He said, “If you continue to talk down on your country you don’t mean well.”

The minister further urged Christians to live according to their faith, stressing that real influence comes from practising one’s beliefs.

President Bola Tinubu, on December 2, nominated Musa, then the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, as Minister of Defence.

The nomination was conveyed in a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, announcing him as the replacement for Mohammed Badaru, who resigned on health grounds, with the President expressing confidence in Musa’s capacity to lead the ministry and reinforce Nigeria’s security.
