Breaking: Tinubu explains Main Reasons For Suspending CBN Boss, Emefiele

ideemlawful profile1iDeemlawful June 23, 2023
ideemlawful profile1iDeemlawful

Godwin Emefiele’s suspension from his position as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been justified by President Bola Tinubu, who has made the decision public.

According to reports, the revelation was made during a recent interactive meeting with Nigerians living in France and other nearby European nations.

The financial system in Nigeria is in a bad state under Emefiele’s leadership, according to President Tinubu, who also referred to it as rotten.

He emphasized that while Nigerians living abroad had trouble sending money home due to fluctuating exchange rates, this system allowed a select few to engage in illegal money-making activities.

President Tinubu reassured the audience, however, that these problems are now a thing of the past because the guilty party is now in the custody of law enforcement authorities. The financial system was corrupt, he said.

Few people were making huge sums of money with our money, and then you stopped sending money to our helpless parents. There were several windows, but they are all gone now. ”

The man is in the hands of authorities, something is being done about that, and they will take care of themselves, President Tinubu emphasized, stressing that appropriate actions are being taken to address the situation. ”.

Godwin Emefiele was removed from office as CBN Governor on June 9 by President Bola Tinubu. Emefiele was then detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) as he tried to cross a land border into another country.

Among the many accusations against Emefiele is that he has supported terrorism.

What Tinubu Said to European Bank Delegations

ideemlawful profile1iDeemlawful June 23, 2023
ideemlawful profile1iDeemlawful
  • Tinubu informs delegations from Afrexim and the European Bank that Nigeria is open for business.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared that Nigeria was open for business and assured investors of open embracement.

On Thursday in Paris, France, when he met with Chairman of the Board of Directors of the African Export-Import Bank (Afrexim), President Tinubu gave the assurance.

Separate meetings between Prof. Benedict Oramah and Odile Reaud-Basso, president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), took place on the sidelines of the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact.

The President declared, “We are ready for business, ready to welcome investments,” adding that the ongoing reforms, which began with the elimination of fuel subsidies and the streamlining of the exchange rate, would be maintained for a more competitive economy that draws Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

In a statement released by his spokesman, Dele Alake, the President, who urged investors to take advantage of the opportunities in Nigeria, was also quoted as assuring the delegation of AfreximBank executives led by Dr. Oramah that the federal government would continue to stimulate the economy with measures that encourage investment in sectors where Nigeria has a competitive advantage, particularly agriculture.

President Tinubu addressed the delegation, saying, “Nigeria is blessed with human and material resources.”

The delegation had earlier listed areas for intervention to boost the economy, including infrastructure, health, energy, and agriculture.

President Tinubu was praised earlier for taking the risky steps to end the fuel subsidy and unify the exchange rate by the head of AfreximBank.

He assured the President of the financial and development institution’s unwavering support for the ongoing reforms. Dr. Oramah also stated that the bank was already constructing the first African Specialist Hospital in Abuja and that Energy Bank had committed to injecting additional funds into the economy to further boost investor confidence.

In a similar vein, President Tinubu stated during the meeting with the EBRD that Nigeria’s economy was too powerful and large to be disregarded, adding, “Ignoring Nigeria will be a peril to the universe. ”

After examining six potential investment destinations, Renaud-Basso concluded that the development bank would be making a mistake if it chose not to fund projects in Nigeria.

CONUA contradicts ASUU’s stance over Students Loan

ideemlawful profile1iDeemlawful June 21, 2023
ideemlawful profile1iDeemlawful

The Congress of University Academics (CONUA) has applauded the initiative of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration, contradicting the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ (ASUU) position on the recently signed students’ loan.

In a statement, Dr. Niyi Sunmonu, president of the union that split from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), said: “We are not advocating throwing out the baby with the bathwater. We are idealists who hope that the loan will increase funding for the system, give the underprivileged access to higher education, and help to stabilize the academic calendar.

Being a new program, Sunmonu noted that there will be some murky legal issues that need to be clarified in the students’ favor.

He also stated that CONUA is prepared to work with the government to make the students’ loan program a success.

“As a Union, we are aware of the administration’s agenda of ‘Renewed Hope,’ and we accept their decision to take the extremely difficult steps necessary to engineer major politico-economic changes. We also value your commitment to taking the necessary steps to lessen the uncomfortable side effects of the unavoidable difficult decisions.

CONUA sincerely hopes that the administration will offer the bold direction necessary for the steady and forward-thinking development of the whole country.

“Therefore, we pledge that we are ready to work with this administration by developing and making available ideas and suggestions that will lift our educational system in particular from its current state to a pedestal that we can all be proud of.

Together, we will work to restore faith in Nigeria and establish the right circumstances for the noble aspirations of the populace to be realized.

[Revealed] How Emefiele Was Lured to work against Tinubu

ideemlawful profile1iDeemlawful June 21, 2023
ideemlawful profile1iDeemlawful
  • list anti-party activities against DSP
  • allegation untrue, sponsored by expelled chieftains

The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has accused the former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, of allegedly being the brain behind the participation of the
suspended Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, in the APC presidential primary.

According to the party, Omo-Agege lured Emefiele to participate in the APC primary in a bid to scuttle President Bola Tinubu’s ambition.

The claim was disclosed in a letter written to the president on Monday, titled: “Attempts by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege to scuttle presidential ambition of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through recruitment of Mr. Godwin Emefiele, anti-Tinubu campaign stance and anti-party activities.”

In a letter made available to The PUNCH, signed by the State APC Secretary, Michael Inana; Delta North Chairman, Tom Onah; South Chairman, Nelson Ogharama and Central Chairman, Michael Orunefe.

The statement partly read, “Your Excellency, you will recall that at a point ahead of the Party National Convention in June 2022, members especially those of us from Ika South Local Government Area got information that Omo-Agege had plans to issue party membership card to the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele and we objected to his plans. We told him it was not morally right for Emefiele to contest and that it would affect your chances to secure the presidential ticket.

“All efforts to make Omo-Agege see reasons fell on deaf ears but he convinced Emefiele and assured him that he will get the Party National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka whom he planted as a spy to help get Emefiele the ticket.

“Your Excellency Sir, permit us to refer you to PUNCH Newspaper of May 9, 2022, which confirmed the story that the APC Ward Chairman eventually gave Emefiele the membership card in February 2021. The name of the Ward Chairman is Mr. Nduka Erikpume and the Ika South APC Local Government Chairman is Hilary FadaIbude. These two were the ones who also signed our state leaders’ expulsion letters on the instructions of Omo-Agege. Their offence was that they opposed Omo-Agege’s position to recruit Emefiele to contest the Presidential election against you,” the letter stressed.

Continuing, the statement maintained that on the night of the APC Convention, the Delta delegates were instructed by the former deputy senate president to vote against Tinubu, who he alleged stood no chance against their ‘anointed.’

Inana and others noted in the letter that virtually every delegate was aware of this stance, adding that as God would have it, the former Lagos State Governor won the primary convincingly.

However, they maintained that Omo-Agege has yet to forgive them for opposing him.

The Delta APC allegation also recalled that in the build-up to the 2023 general elections, party faithful and critical stakeholders, especially, those not in Omo-Agege’s camp, were sidelined and prevented from participating in the activities, including the buying of forms to contest congresses and primaries.

It insisted, “They did this to the extent that Omo-Agege was the only person in Delta who collected forms for the gubernatorial primaries. The same thing was applicable to Senatorial, House of Representatives, and State Assembly Primaries. Omo-Agege single-handedly nominated all the candidates in Delta State.

“His personal staff members were subsequently made party officials in Delta State, including the current APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, who was his legal aide. His political adviser, Omeni Sobotie, also became the party chairman. All aides in his office were allotted party positions in the state excos,” he alleged further.

The letter containing the allegation was also accompanied by tweets, Omo-Agege’s campaign posters involving the Obidient movement, and video clip evidence to prove he was involved in a series of anti-party activities even during the 2023 general elections.

It also maintained that the development led many party chieftains, including Chief Great Ogboru to leave the APC to pursue their political ambitions in other parties before the poll.

The statement remarked, “Mr. President, we enclose herewith posters and videos of Omo-Agege and Labour Party candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, posing ahead of the election to the fact that he and his group never worked for you. We cannot continue this way in Delta.

“Therefore, we call on you to ask Omo-Agege to free the State APC of his stranglehold so it can breathe freely.

“You can imagine that in an election held on the same day, the APC won two senatorial seats and could not garner the required 25 per cent votes in the state. This makes it obvious that Omo-Agege asked his followers not to vote for you. If you have any doubt, you have the security agencies at your command to investigate the points we have raised,” the statement pointed out.

When contacted for a reaction, the Communications and Media Strategist for Omo-Agege Campaign Organisation, Ima Niboro, told our correspondent to reach the politician’s Chief Press Secretary, Sunny Areh.

Areh also declined comment, saying the Chairman of the Delta APC, Omeni Sobotie, will be in a better position to discuss the issue and the crisis rocking the party at the state level.

As of the time of filing this story, Sobotie could not be reached as his phone repeatedly indicated that he was unreachable.

However, Morka defended the former DSP, saying the allegation was spurious.

The APC national publicity secretary also disclosed that the claim was probably sponsored by the expelled former APC chieftain and Delta grassroots politician, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh.

“I am sure you that’s not the real Delta APC. Those guys are Cairo Ojougboh’s sponsored organisation. Over time, we know Cairo has set his ‘bunch of nobodies’ just to perpetrate this sort of rubbish.

“I think the reaction that will be appropriate for now is the state executive of the party. That is where you can get the proper perspective,” he said.

ASUU Gives Alternative To Students Loan

ideemlawful profile1iDeemlawful June 19, 2023
ideemlawful profile1iDeemlawful

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has requested that President Bola Tinubu amend the recently approved Students Loans Act to include grants for needy students.

ASUU National President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, stated today on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics program that “this would have been better if we are giving it to those set of students who are very poor; it should be called a grant, not a loan.”.

“Since it comes from the Federation Account, it should be referred to as a grant rather than a loan because once these individuals have access to it, they have heavy debts to pay off by the time they graduate and, if they don’t, they will be sent to jail in two years if they don’t.

We are discussing collective bargaining because it allows for the inclusion of all viewpoints. ”.

In order to keep a promise he made during his campaign, Tinubu signed the Students Loans Bill into law on Monday.

Femi Gbajabiamila, who is currently the President’s Chief of Staff, was the Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives and the bill’s sponsor.

The law, which is now an Act, offers free loans to underprivileged Nigerian students. The loan is not feasible, according to the president of ASUU.

He declared that the loan “is not sustainable.”.

The concept of a student loan originated in a bank that had been established, according to Osodeke. You can look into people who borrowed money but never paid it back. A Students’ Loan Board was established by military decree 50, which was implemented in 1994 and 1993.

It was domesticated in 2004 by the National Assembly, and it took off the following year. The money vanished. We’re interested in how this one will be different. ”.

He claims that there are over a million students enrolled in Nigeria’s public universities, making it impossible for the loan to fully cover tuition costs.

The loan’s terms, according to the ASUU President, are “not realistic,” and more than 90% of students won’t be able to fulfill the “stringent requirements” necessary to apply for and repay the loan.

“We, as a union, also conducted research of nations around the world to determine the suicide rates of people who had benefited from this loan. Recently, (President Joe) Biden has been attempting to repay some Americans who borrowed money from US banks, the speaker said.

Instead of burdening students with loans who have parents who make N30,000 a month, it is preferable to look for alternative sources of education funding. ”.

Timetable for the 10th National Assembly (NASS)

ideemlawful profile1iDeemlawful June 19, 2023
ideemlawful profile1iDeemlawful

We applaud the Senate and House of Representatives’ 10th session for conducting the elections for their top officials in an orderly and civilized manner.

The bitter rivalries that had preceded the competitions were immediately put to rest at the conclusion when the losers congratulated the winners.

The 10th National Assembly has now been fully constituted, with Senator Godswill Akpabio (APC, Akwa Ibom) serving as the Senate’s President and Senator Barau Jibrin (APC, Kano) serving as the Senate’s Deputy President.

Tajudeen Abbas (APC Kaduna) was chosen as Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Benjamin Kalu (APC Abia) was chosen as Deputy Speaker.

Although President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, have expressed their agreement with the Red and Green Chambers of the National Assembly, there is a nagging suspicion that the new administration has completely captured the government, despite Tinubu’s longstanding claim to be the ideal democrat.

We could be in store for a civilian dictatorship if the National Assembly fails to uphold its constitutional mandate. Given this, all of the nation’s pro-democracy, civil liberties, human rights, and media outlets must be vigilant and maintain the National Assembly’s independence while collaborating effectively with the Executive branch.

In addition to its primary duty of enacting laws, the legislative branch is obligated to uphold the checks and balances and separation of powers principles that are integral to the presidential form of government. In order to ensure due process, transparency, and accountability, they must take very seriously their responsibility to oversee how the money they appropriate to the executive and judicial branches is used.

In order to ensure that their own spending is transparent to the public, they must also engage in self-monitoring. After all, they speak for the people, not for themselves. We anticipate that the 10th National Assembly will support the fight against corruption by holding the anti-corruption organizations accountable and, as necessary, holding everyone in the current or previous regimes—regardless of their positions or political allegiances—responsible for how they handled public funds.

The practice of the Muhammadu Buhari appointees ignoring NASS summonses must not be tolerated. Our constitutional rights must be upheld throughout the nation, and the 10th National Assembly must stand with the people in this effort.

We make this statement in light of the racial profiling that occurred in Lagos during the most recent elections and the obstinate threat made by the Lagos State House of Assembly to seize non-indigenous people’s property.

Wherever they happen, such blatant violations of our constitutional rights need to be confronted and stopped in their tracks. We hope the 10th Assembly has a productive meeting.
