Four members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who earlier pulled out of the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara have reversed their stance and thrown their weight behind the process.
The lawmakers made the reversal on Friday during a live broadcast monitored by PUNCH Online, just days after they had publicly appealed for dialogue and a peaceful resolution to the political crisis in the state.
Their renewed support comes amid escalating tensions within the Assembly over the impeachment move targeting Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.
The House, under the leadership of Speaker Martin Amaewhule, had last week initiated impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy over allegations of gross misconduct.

The accusations include the demolition of the Assembly complex and claims of expenditure of public funds without legislative approval.
However, between Monday and Wednesday, the four lawmakers announced their withdrawal from the impeachment process, citing the need for reconciliation and political dialogue.
On Friday, members of the Assembly maintained that the impeachment process would proceed, insisting it was constitutional and the appropriate response to the political stalemate in the state.
The development followed the Assembly’s inability to reconvene for plenary on Thursday, a week after adjourning its previous sitting, amid reports of internal disagreements among lawmakers.
