The turmoil within Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has intensified as both factions issued public disclaimers disowning each other’s members.
The faction led by Tanimu Turaki released a disclaimer declaring that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, Ayo Fayose, and several others are no longer PDP members and should not be recognised as such.
In a swift response, the Wike-led faction issued its own disclaimer, insisting that Governors Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed, Dauda Lawal Dare and others have ceased to be members of the party and should no longer be regarded as PDP affiliates.

This development comes shortly after the Turaki-led faction issued certificates of expulsion to Wike, Fayose, and other figures aligned with his camp.
The announcement was made on Tuesday during a post-meeting briefing held after the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) session in Abuja.
National Chairman Kabiru Turaki told reporters that the decision underscored the party’s commitment to restoring discipline and curbing longstanding internal sabotage.
He noted that the briefing followed a review session of the new NWC, which examined party operations, ongoing primaries, legal disputes, and transition documents from the former leadership.
Turaki confirmed that the expulsion certificates had already been dispatched via courier to the affected individuals, including Wike, Fayose, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Umaru Bature, Kamarudeen Ajibade (SAN), Abdurahman Muhammad, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah Nnanna, George Turna, and Chief Dan Orbih.
The PDP crisis worsened after the party lost the 2023 presidential election, with rival factions battling for control. The prolonged infighting has contributed to the defection of several governors, senators and House of Assembly members to the APC and other parties.
