The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has announced a reduction in the price of petrol for the third time in December 2025.
According to a report by DAILY POST, some NNPCL filling stations in Abuja on Thursday lowered the pump price to ₦835 per litre from ₦915.
This indicates that the state-owned oil company effected a price cut of ₦80 per litre.
The adjustment follows earlier revisions by MRS, BOVAS, and AA Rano, which had reduced their petrol pump prices to between ₦739 and ₦865 per litre within the Federal Capital Territory.
NNPCL and other marketers’ downward price reviews came after Dangote Refinery and depot owners slashed their ex-depot prices to between ₦699 and ₦800.
It will be recalled that NNPCL and other filling stations previously reduced fuel prices on December 4 and December 10, 2025, respectively.
The President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has also stated that the ₦739 per litre petrol price would be strictly implemented from Tuesday, starting with MRS Oil and Gas filling stations.
In recent weeks, a price battle has emerged between Dangote Refinery and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), a situation some industry stakeholders have described as beneficial to the petroleum sector.
Dangote recently assured Nigerians of uninterrupted availability of petroleum products throughout the festive season, noting that the usual scarcity associated with the yuletide period would not occur.
