Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) has announced her preparedness to substantiate her sexual harassment allegation against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
She made this known in reaction to a N200 billion defamation action instituted against her by the Senate President, in Abuja, on Friday, confirming that she had received the legal documents.
According to her, Akpabio’s lawsuit has now offered her the chance previously denied by the Senate Ethics and Privileges Committee to defend her claims before a court empowered to hear the matter.
In a statement, the Kogi Central Senator stated that “the court case now provided the platform” she had been long expecting.
She maintains that she will demonstrate that she was genuinely sexually harassed and that her refusal to give in to the alleged conduct triggered continuous political hostility toward her.
“See you in court, Godswill Akpabio,” she stated.
The suit, which includes a comprehensive Statement of Claim and a list of witnesses, contends that Senator Akpoti’s interviews broadcast on television, radio, and circulated widely online portrayed the Senate President as someone who misused his office for personal benefit.
Akpabio claims that millions of Nigerians viewed the content, resulting in a wave of condemnation that he describes as damaging, humiliating, and emotionally troubling.
He is urging the court to order the deletion of all online materials featuring the allegations and to mandate a public apology aired across major media platforms for several consecutive days.
A court order issued on 6 November 2025 allowed the claimant to serve court papers on Senator Akpoti through the Clerk of the National Assembly after failed attempts to deliver them directly.
The Senate President had instituted a N200 billion defamation case against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, alleging that she published defamatory claims accusing him of sexually harassing her.
Documents from the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory show that Akpabio is seeking substantial damages, retractions, and nationwide broadcast apologies, insisting that the senator’s statements gravely tarnished his image and exposed him to public embarrassment.
The case is now set to progress as both sides brace for what is expected to become one of the most widely followed political court battles in Nigeria.
