The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has eased public fears over a recent recall notice involving Indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour, assuring Nigerians that the affected product is neither registered nor available for sale in the country.

In a statement released on Sunday, NAFDAC explained that the recall was issued by French health authorities and does not concern any Indomie products produced or approved for distribution within Nigeria.

The agency said the recall was announced by Rappel Conso, France’s official consumer safety platform, after undeclared allergens—milk and eggs—were detected in the Vegetable Flavour variant, posing potential health risks to people with allergies or intolerances.

The statement, signed by NAFDAC’s Director-General, Professor Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye, emphasised that the recalled product did not originate from Nigeria and is not registered with the agency.

“The Indomie noodles vegetable flavour in question is not registered with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for sale in Nigeria,” the statement said.

NAFDAC further pointed out that noodles are listed on the Federal Government’s Import Prohibition List, making their importation illegal and significantly limiting the chances of the recalled product entering the Nigerian market.

As a precaution, the agency said it has stepped up nationwide surveillance to prevent any possible entry of the affected product. Zonal directors and state coordinators have been instructed to stay alert and withdraw the product from circulation if discovered anywhere in the country, while the Ports Inspection Directorate has also been placed on high alert.

The agency reassured Nigerians that all noodles approved by NAFDAC for sale in the country are produced locally and only cleared after meeting strict regulatory standards, including adherence to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).

NAFDAC advised consumers to remain cautious, dispose of the recalled product if encountered, and report any suspected sale or distribution to the nearest NAFDAC office or via its toll-free line, 0800-162-3322. Consumers were also encouraged to report adverse reactions using the agency’s e-reporting platforms.

In a related statement, Indomie Nigeria dissociated its locally manufactured products from the recall, confirming that all Indomie noodles produced in Nigeria are safe for consumption.

The company clarified that it does not manufacture, import, distribute or sell any noodle variant known as Vegetable Flavour in Nigeria.

“As clearly stated in NAFDAC’s official press release, the affected product recall was from France in August 2025 and the alert was issued purely as a precautionary measure to safeguard the Nigerian public,” Indomie Nigeria said.

It added that all Indomie noodles produced by Dufil Prima Foods in Nigeria undergo rigorous quality control processes and fully comply with NAFDAC regulations. The company also noted that images circulating online of the recalled product do not align with Indomie Nigeria’s approved packaging, branding or labelling.

Reaffirming that noodle importation into Nigeria is prohibited by law, Indomie Nigeria urged consumers to be wary of noodle products with unfamiliar or inconsistent packaging and to rely on verified information from official sources.

Both NAFDAC and Indomie Nigeria called on the public to remain calm, assuring Nigerians that locally manufactured Indomie noodles are safe and unaffected by the foreign recall.

It will be recalled that in 2023, Indomie Special Chicken Flavour was linked to an international food safety alert after concerns were raised by health authorities in Taiwan and Malaysia.

At the time, NAFDAC ordered investigations and reassured the public that all noodles produced in Nigeria were safe for consumption.
