The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed the expulsion of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, along with several others from the party.
The announcement was made on Tuesday during a post-meeting briefing following the National Working Committee (NWC) session in Abuja.
National Chairman Kabiru Turaki, SAN, who addressed reporters, said the decision underscores the party’s determination to uphold discipline and bring an end to long-standing internal sabotage.
He explained that the briefing followed a review session by the new NWC to assess party operations, ongoing primaries, legal disputes, and handover documents from the previous leadership.
Turaki revealed that expulsion certificates had already been dispatched via courier to the affected members, including Wike, Fayose, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Umaru Bature, Kamarudeen Ajibade (SAN), Abdurahman Muhammad, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah Nnanna, George Turna, and Chief Dan Orbih.
“They have been expelled. They remain expelled. We have now certified their expulsion, and these certificates have been sent to them,” he said.
He added that the move was also intended to formally notify INEC, the police, DSS, NSCDC, and other relevant institutions that the individuals were no longer members of the PDP.
“Very soon, members of the society will be informed via proper disclaimers that any person henceforth who decides to do business with them, any or all of them (in the name of the PDP), does so at his or her own risk,” Turaki stated.
On November 15, the PDP expelled the 11 members for alleged anti-party activities during a national convention held in Ibadan.
Anyanwu later rejected the action, insisting he remains the legitimate National Secretary and that the Turaki-led faction lacks the authority to remove him.
Tensions escalated on November 18 when both factions confronted each other at the party’s national secretariat, prompting security personnel to fire teargas.
Meanwhile, Wike’s faction has taken legal action against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), seeking to stop recognition of the Ibadan convention.
