The Kano State Hospitals Management Board has confirmed that the incident surrounding the death of a mother of five, Aishatu Umar, took place at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre, amid claims of medical negligence that triggered widespread public concern in Kano.
In a statement released on Tuesday evening and signed by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Samira Suleiman, the Board explained that a preliminary and transparent investigation ordered by its Executive Secretary, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, “established that the unfortunate incident involving the late Aishatu Umar did occur at the Abubakar Imam Urology Center.”
The release noted that, in keeping with the Board’s stance on accountability, “three (3) personnel directly involved in the case have been outrightly suspended from clinical activities with immediate effect.”
It added that the matter has been forwarded to the Kano State Medical Ethics Committee for additional investigation and potential disciplinary measures. The Board said the referral was meant to ensure “appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with existing laws, professional guidelines, and ethical standards.”

While addressing the bereaved family, the Board said it “extends its deepest condolences to the family of the late Aishatu Umar” and assured residents that it “will not condone negligence in any form.”
The Board further vowed to reinforce internal oversight and uphold professional standards across public health facilities, stressing that measures are being implemented to avert a repeat of such incidents and to protect the lives, dignity, and confidence of patients in Kano State.
