The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that it will not recognise Seyi Makinde bloc of the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, pointing to existing court rulings and unresolved legal disputes.

In a letter dated December 22, 2025, and signed by its Secretary, Dr Rose Oriaran-Anthony, INEC said it could not accede to requests to acknowledge or upload on its website the list of national officers claimed to have been elected at the party’s National Convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan.

The electoral body said its stance was based on subsisting judicial decisions and ongoing court cases linked to the leadership tussle within the PDP.

INEC stressed that recognising any factional leadership would be inappropriate while the issues remain subject to judicial determination.
