Massive crowds converged at the palace of the Emir of Ilorin on Monday to pay their final respects to the late Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Dr Mohammed Bashir Solihu, who died on Monday.
Solihu passed away at the age of 75.
The cleric, who served as the 12th Chief Imam of Ilorin for more than four decades, was widely admired for his wisdom, intellect, and steadfast commitment to fostering interfaith harmony and tolerance.
He was appointed Chief Imam in 1983 and emerged as a lasting symbol of peace and unity within the Ilorin Emirate.

The Janazah prayer, conducted at the Emir’s palace, attracted notable Nigerians, including the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
The Emir described the late Chief Imam as a man of profound honour and deep piety, noting that his death represents a monumental loss to the Ilorin Emirate, the Muslim Ummah, and humanity at large.
Sheikh Solihu was born in 1950 and began his Qur’anic education at the Magaji Baboko Qur’anic School.
He later attended Shaykh Abubakar Sakama School and earned several recognitions, including an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Belaze University, UK, awarded in 2013.
