The Federal Government has announced Thursday, December 25, and Friday, December 26, 2025, as public holidays in observance of Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
In addition, the government declared Thursday, January 1, 2026, as a public holiday to mark the New Year.
The announcement was made in a statement released on Monday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
According to the statement, the minister encouraged Nigerians to reflect on the principles of love, peace, humility and sacrifice symbolised by the birth of Jesus Christ.
Tunji-Ojo also appealed to citizens, regardless of religion or ethnic background, to use the festive period to offer prayers for peace, enhanced security and national development.
He further urged Nigerians to be law-abiding and security-conscious throughout the celebrations, while extending his wishes for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
