—The family of Dr Abu Babatunde, a House Officer at Edo University Teaching Hospital, Iyamho, has appealed to the public for financial support following his abduction alongside his brother.

In a statement made available on Thursday, the family disclosed that the abductors are demanding N100 million for their freedom, describing the amount as an “impossible mountain to climb” without external assistance.

“With teary eyes and a heavy heart, I come to the public today to ask for your prayers, support, and monetary assistance,” the doctor’s wife said, explaining the deep emotional strain the family is facing.

She confirmed that Babatunde and his brother, Abu Momoh, were taken from their residence by armed men.The kidnappers later contacted the family, placing a huge ransom demand on the captives’ lives.

The family stressed that the amount demanded is far beyond their capacity and urged that any donation, regardless of size, could help secure their loved ones’ release.

“The kidnappers are demanding N100 million for the release of Dr. Abu Babatunde, an amount far beyond what I can raise on my own. No amount is too small. Please keep him in your prayers and help us in any way you can,” the statement added.

This incident further highlights growing insecurity in the area, with medical workers increasingly becoming targets.

Colleagues and friends at Edo University Teaching Hospital have joined the family in circulating the appeal on social media, expressing hope for a quick and safe resolution.

Earlier reports stated that the Edo State Police Command, on Saturday, January 3, 2026, confirmed the abduction of two brothers, Ibrahim and Abu Momoh, on January 2 in Auchi, Edo North.

Ibrahim, a house officer at Edo State Teaching Hospital, was said to have been abducted with his brother while returning home from work on Friday, January 2, 2026.

The suspected kidnappers later killed the younger of the two brothers abducted on January 2 at their home along City Pride Road, Igbira Camp, Auchi, Edo North.

Their father, Tahir Momoh, subsequently confirmed the death of his son, Abu Momoh.
