Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Thursday resisted an attempt by security operatives to arrest him at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
It was gathered that the operatives approached El-Rufai at the airport lobby shortly after he arrived from Cairo, Egypt.
However, the former governor insisted on receiving a formal letter of invitation before agreeing to accompany them anywhere.
“Listen, nobody, not even the president could tell me I have to do anything. If you want to invite me, give me a letter,” he said.

According to his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, in a post on his 𝕏 account, security agents tried to detain El-Rufai, but he refused to go with them without an official invitation, after which they collected his passport from an aide.
The statement from Adekeye reads: “Security agents today attempted to arrest Malam Nasir elrufai as he arrived on a flight from Cairo. Malam El-Rufai declined to follow them without a formal Invitation. They, however, snatched his passport from an aide.”
Recall that El-Rufai, in an interview with DCL Hausa, accused the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, of ordering arrests without proper investigation.
He said, “Nuhu Ribadu just picks his phone and calls any security outfit to arrest anybody without any form of investigation.”
El-Rufai stressed “I am not saying President Tinubu makes the call.”
According to him, “It is not the NSA’s job to call EFCC, directing them to arrest this person or that. His job is to advise the President on security issues.
“If he sees a person that is a threat to security, his job is to draw the attention of the President, and he would order an investigation.”
The former governor further alleged that Ribadu interferes in judicial processes by influencing bail decisions.
He claimed the NSA instructs judges to deny bail to suspects who, according to him, were not properly investigated initially.
“I feel ashamed when I remember he was once my friend,” El-Rufai said.
“Nobody is as wicked as Nuhu Ribadu in Tinubu’s administration.”
