Family sources confirmed that he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The Bayelsa State deputy governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has passed away after collapsing unexpectedly in his office.
It was earlier reported that the deputy governor slumped while at work and was immediately taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yenagoa.
Family insiders confirmed that he was declared dead shortly after reaching the hospital.
The incident happened around 1:30pm, triggering a swift emergency response.
Witnesses also noted that the deputy governor seemed to be in critical condition as he was rushed into the hospital’s emergency department.
A source close to the deputy governor linked the collapse to the intense demands of his schedule.
Although officials have yet to release the exact cause of the medical emergency, several sources hinted it could be associated with a possible cardiac issue.
Security personnel have since secured the hospital grounds, limiting access as senior government figures arrive to show support.
Attempts to reach the deputy governor’s media aide, Mr. Doubara Atasi, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
