Armed men believed to be bandits operating from the Kainji Lake National Park forest in the Kabe District of Borgu Local Government Area, Niger State, have attacked a village market, killing 30 residents and abducting several others.
Findings revealed that the assailants stormed Kasuwan Daji market in Demo village through Kabe.
During the attack, the gunmen reportedly set the market on fire, looted traders’ goods—particularly foodstuffs—opened fire on villagers and abducted many victims, escaping through routes leading into the vast Kainji Lake National Park forest.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, stated: “A joint security team has visited the scene and about 42 victims lost their lives during the attack, some were kidnapped, efforts are ongoing to rescue the kidnap victims.”
