The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded that its former National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, settle an alleged outstanding debt of N150 million owed to the party.
The party said the claimed obligations accumulated during Odigie-Oyegun’s years within the APC, including his tenure as the party’s pioneer national chairman.
In a statement signed by the Edo APC chairman, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe, the party alleged that Oyegun ignored repeated formal requests for repayment, with the outstanding liability put at over N150 million.
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State wishes to inform the general public that, as a law-abiding, people-centered political organisation, we have formally demanded the settlement of debts owed by the national leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun,” the statement said.

Tenebe claimed that the alleged debt consisted of loans reportedly given to Oyegun while he served as APC national chairman, as well as unpaid membership dues said to have accrued throughout his time in the party.
Reacting, Odigie-Oyegun rejected the claims, describing them as unfounded and driven by political motives.
“People will have a good laugh at that,” he said.
“Negative as what they are doing may be, it finally shows that they now know they have problems with the advent of the ADC.”
He argued that the APC’s response reflected fear of a growing opposition rather than a willingness to engage constructively.
“They now know they are in trouble. We are ready for them. Whatever they do, we are ready. They are finally acknowledging that there is a threat to them in Nigeria,” he said.
Odigie-Oyegun further accused the APC of bringing disrepute to Edo State through acts of violence and intimidation.
“They have dragged Edo State down into the mud. The only thing they can do is violence and unnecessary attacks,” he added.
Odigie-Oyegun, who headed the APC between 2014 and 2018, recently defected to the African Democratic Congress as part of an opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 general election.
Since leaving the ruling party, he has become an outspoken critic of the APC and President Bola Tinubu, taking an active role in mobilising the opposition.
