Nigeria’s Super Eagles players have reportedly issued a warning to boycott Thursday’s training session and delay their trip to Marrakech ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final against Algeria unless all outstanding bonuses are paid by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Journalists covering the team in Morocco, including sports reporter Adepoju Tobi Samuel, disclosed that the players are insisting on the immediate payment of their match-winning bonuses before resuming preparations for the crucial fixture.

BBC Sport Africa correspondent Olúwashínà Okeleji also confirmed the development, noting that both the players and members of the coaching staff are still owed outstanding payments.

“Players and coaching staff of Nigeria are waiting on AFCON 2025 bonus payments,” Okeleji wrote.

He added that win bonuses from four matches — against Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Mozambique — remain unpaid.

Despite the standoff, the Super Eagles are said to be maintaining their focus on the tournament. Okeleji reported that the team trained in Fes on Wednesday as preparations continued for Saturday’s quarter-final encounter with Algeria.

“Squad remain focused but might not train or travel to Marrakech on Thursday if this isn’t resolved,” he stated.

The situation reflects a familiar pattern in disputes between the national team and football administrators.

In November, the Super Eagles similarly threatened to boycott a World Cup qualifier against Gabon over unpaid allowances before the matter was eventually settled.

Nigeria will face Algeria on Saturday in Marrakesh, with the winner advancing to the semi-finals of the AFCON 2025 tournament.
