Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola, widely known as FRYO, has been declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer for the August 8, 2026 Osun State governorship election.

The primary, held in Osogbo on Tuesday, was conducted under tight security.

This development follows Governor Ademola Adeleke’s announcement on Monday of his withdrawal from the primaries and his resignation from the PDP.

Chairman of the primary committee, Humphrey Abba, confirmed that Adebayo earned 919 of the 957 accredited votes, securing a decisive win.

Abba noted that 20 ballots were voided after the withdrawal of a candidate identified as Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The committee chairman added, “The candidate that got the remaining votes is Adebayo Adedamola with 919 votes and he stands elected and returned.”

It was further gathered that although Adeleke had publicly exited the party, his name still appeared on the ballot used during the PDP primary.

Party officials explained that the exercise complied with procedural rules, with accredited delegates casting their votes as required.

The PDP has struggled with internal division since its loss in the 2023 general election, leading to the rise of competing factions. Turaki’s emergence as the new party chairman—previously seen as a potential unifying solution—has instead deepened the internal rift.
