The Kano State Censorship Board has directed the immediate closure of all entertainment centres across Kano State, including event venues widely referred to as gala houses and Disc Jockey operators, following the commencement of the Ramadan fast.
The order was announced in a statement released on Tuesday by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman.
According to the statement, the closure will begin on Wednesday, February 18 (today), 2026, as part of activities marking the holy month of Ramadan.
“Effective from Wednesday, 18 February 2026, all such venues (entertainment centres) will remain closed until the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

“The directive will take effect from 10:00 p.m. on that day (today, Wednesday),” the statement read.
The statement explained that the measure was introduced to allow residents observe the Ramadan fast and engage in religious practices in a calm and uninterrupted atmosphere.
“The closure will remain in force throughout the fasting period, while the date for reopening, particularly during the Eid celebrations, will be announced at the appropriate time,” the statement added.
The board called on operators and stakeholders within the entertainment sector to fully obey the directive, stating that the action is in line with its legal responsibility to regulate entertainment activities in the state.
It also offered prayers for a peaceful and healthy fasting period, asking God to grant residents the grace to witness the holy month in mercy and prosperity.
Recall that the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, yesterday announced Wednesday, February 18, 2026, as the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs also confirmed crescent moon sightings for Ramadan from three different locations in Nigeria.
