The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed frustration over the Federal Government’s inaction on critical issues affecting its members.

ASUU also outlined conditions for accepting the counteroffer to the 2009 agreement currently under review by a government committee chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Abel Enitan.

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, said on Thursday that a technical committee, led by Enitan, is working on finalizing a clean proposal to present to ASUU.

“We’ve decided on a counter-proposal to them. We now close by setting up a high-level technical team to clean up our proposal, come with a clean document,” Alausa told journalists at a press briefing.

The 2009 agreement remains the last signed deal between the Federal Government and ASUU, with the union pushing for a review to improve lecturers’ welfare.

Commenting on the proposed counteroffer, ASUU National President, Chris Piwuna, said the union would only accept a meaningful proposal.

“I truly hope they will come up with something tangible. Our members are tired of words and no action,” Piwuna said.
