Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has published what he described as evidence to support his claim that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, received ₦50bn from the Federal Government over the Ibadan explosion victims.
Fayose had earlier alleged that Makinde collected ₦50bn from the administration of President Bola Tinubu as intervention funds following the January 2024 Ibadan explosion.
In response, Makinde challenged Fayose to present proof of the alleged payment.
According to Fayose, only ₦4.5bn was eventually disbursed to the victims of the Ibadan explosion.

He further claimed that the remaining funds were diverted by Makinde and allegedly channelled into his presidential ambition, which he said partly explains the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Makinde’s criticisms of President Tinubu and his government.
In a statement, Fayose said he was compelled to release the documents, even though it is not his usual practice to make official records public, in order to set the record straight.
He said, “Even though it is not in my character to go public with official government documents, I had to do this so that Nigerians will know who is saying the truth, and who has not been sincere with the people of Oyo State.”
Fayose also criticised the Oyo State governor for publicly discussing aspects of his private meeting with President Tinubu on national television without providing full details.
He stated, “Most importantly, if as a governor, you have elected to go on national television to disclose part of what transpired in private meetings you had with the President, it becomes the duty of well-meaning Nigerians to give full disclosure.”
The former governor further dared Makinde to take legal action against him over the allegations, warning that he was prepared to release additional documents relating to other intervention funds allegedly received by the Oyo State Government from the Tinubu administration without public disclosure.
Fayose said, “Lastly, I challenge Governor Seyi Makinde to sue me on this. Let me also tell him that there are proofs of other intervention funds received from Tinubu’s administration by the Oyo State Government, which the governor refused to disclose to the people.”
“Also, there are documentary evidences on the actual Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Oyo State, as against Governor Makinde’s claim, but we will keep our gunpowder dry for now.”
He also reminded Makinde of his political pedigree, stressing his readiness to defend himself against any counterclaims.
“My name is still Ayo Fayose, I don’t say what I can’t prove,” the former Ekiti governor said.

Wike and Makinde were among the G5 Governors who openly backed Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress against their party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 election.
However, following Tinubu’s victory, the relationship between Wike and Makinde reportedly deteriorated, with both aligning with different factions within the PDP.
Fayose has also openly declared his support for President Tinubu and has backed Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the APC against a PDP candidate.
